It might not mean much to you now, but Doug Moench's first comic series he ever worked on was Warren Publishing's Vampirella who had Adam Van Helsing as one of the main cast of characters. So from what I have learned and discovered, Doug Moench was inspired by The Shadow when creating Moon Knight and needed a Van Helsing type character to fight werewolves.
